KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Sub-Inspector Nandlal Chaudhary, currently posted at the District Police Office in Sankhuwasabha, has set off to attempt the summit of Makalu, the world's fifth highest and Nepal's fourth highest mountain, carrying both the national flag and the Nepal Police flag.
Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki handed over the two flags to Sub-Inspector Chaudhary at a ceremony held at the Nepal Police Headquarters in Kathmandu on Monday, wishing him a safe, pleasant, and successful expedition.
The ceremony was attended by Additional Inspectors General Rajan Adhikari, Siddhi Bikram Shah, and Uma Prasad Chaturvedi, Central Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Abi Narayan Kafle, and other senior police officers.
Chaudhary, a resident of Shivasatakshi Municipality-7 in Jhapa, began his police career as a constable in 1998 and has since risen to the rank of Sub-Inspector.
He is no stranger to high-altitude mountaineering — in November 2025, he successfully summited Mera Peak (6,476m) in Solukhumbu district.
Makalu, standing at 8,485 metres on the Nepal-Tibet border, is known as one of the most technically demanding peaks in the world, making Chaudhary's attempt a considerable feat of both physical endurance and mountaineering skill.
