KATHMANDU: Polish alpinist Bartosz Kacper Ziemski successfully made a ski descent from Mt. Lhotse after becoming the first person this season to summit the world’s fourth-highest mountain this afternoon.
According to Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks, Bartosz achieved an extraordinary summit ascent and ski descent on Mt. Lhotse.
"Ziemski arrived at the base camp at 4:38pm after making successful ski descent from the summit,” said Khim Lal Gautam, chief at DoT’s field office at Everest base camp.
“Climbing solo in alpine style from Camp IV to the summit without Sherpa support, he then completed an incredible full ski descent from the summit all the way back to Base Camp,” Chhang Dawa said.
With this feat, Bartosz has now summited five 8,000-meter peaks — Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Kangchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse— and delivered one of the most impressive performances of the season.
