KATHMANDU: Members of the Polish Armed Forces completed a series of high-altitude parachute jumps in Nepal’s Khumbu region from November 4 to 6, with drop zones at Syangboche and the Ama Dablam Base Camp.

The jumps were conducted at Syangboche at an elevation of 3,780 metres and at the Ama Dablam Base Camp at 4,570 metres, according to Everest Skydive, which organised the event. The participating Polish military skydivers included certified jumpers and instructors Jarosław Kargul, Maciej Czapla, Marcin Biedziak and Tomasz Ignaczuk.

The expedition used Fishtail Air’s AS350 B3 helicopters operated for high-altitude mountain conditions. Senior Captain Kiran Pun piloted the helicopter during the jumps. Everest Skydive said its expedition team included expedition leader Paul Henry de Baere, high-altitude camerawoman Nadezhda Solovyeva and crew member Christian Støvring.

Everest Skydive team leader Anuj Pandey said the operation required precise coordination because the jumps were conducted at altitudes exceeding 22,000 feet, with landings at around 18,000 feet. He said the Polish military personnel demonstrated the required technical skills and discipline to operate in the high-altitude conditions of the Khumbu.

The company said the three-day event was completed safely and in accordance with its operational procedures and safety requirements set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.

Everest Skydive has been organising high-altitude skydiving events in Nepal for more than 18 years.
