KATHMANDU: A record-holding Ukrainian climber has completed four 8,000-metre peaks in just 39 days, after successfully scaling the world’s third-highest mountain this morning.

According to Mingma G, Managing Director of Imagine Nepal Treks, Valentyn Sypavin from Ukraine stood atop Mt Kanchenjunga at around 9:10 am. “As part of the Imagine Nepal Treks Expedition, Valentyn, along with Palden Namgye Sherpa and Ming Dorchi Sherpa, climbed the mountain,” he shared.

This season, Valentyn has scaled four mountains – Mt Everest, Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Makalu, and Mt Dhaulagiri.

On April 18, the climber summited Mt Dhaulagiri as part of the Pioneer Adventures expedition, while the owner of Ukrainian adventure company Alpomania then stood atop Mt Makalu with 8K Expeditions on May 9.

The 42-year-old climber then scaled Mt Everest with 8K Expeditions for the ninth time on May 17. Having already traversed Everest-Lhotse for the fourth time, he turned to Kanchenjunga after abandoning the Lhotse climb following his Everest summit.

Sypavin is one of the most decorated high-altitude climbers active today. He has also scaled K2 and other mountains. He holds a Guinness World Record for the highest-altitude kayaking, achieved at 6,370 metres in the Atacama region of Chile. He is also a former vice-champion of the Ice Climbing World Cup.
