KATHMANDU: The Nepal Tourism Board has urged tourists to exercise caution while travelling in Nepal from September 25 to 27 as the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of the country.

The advisory warns of heavy rainfall in parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Extremely heavy rainfall is forecast in several areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Sudurpashchim provinces, while some parts of Karnali may also receive heavy rain.

The board has advised visitors travelling to mountainous and high-altitude areas, particularly near river basins, to take additional precautions as weather conditions can change rapidly and snowfall is possible at higher elevations.

Visitors have been advised to check the latest weather forecasts and official advisories before travelling and to remain updated on road, flight and trekking route conditions.

The NTB has also urged tourists to avoid areas affected by severe weather or identified as high-risk and exercise caution near rivers, streams, steep slopes and landslide-prone areas.

The board advised visitors to avoid trekking, mountaineering and other outdoor activities during unsafe weather and follow instructions issued by local authorities, security agencies and tourism professionals.

It has also encouraged travellers to move to safer locations in advance when necessary based on weather conditions and advice from tour operators.
