KATHMANDU: The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC)- Annapurna Conservation Area Project has issued an important travel advisory highlighting the risks of high-altitude sickness for trekkers in the Annapurna region.

According to the ACAP, on average, 18 to 20 visitors lose their lives each year due to altitude-related illnesses in the area. To ensure safety, trekkers are advised to avoid rushing to higher elevations and to take adequate time for rest and acclimatization.

If any symptoms of altitude sickness occur, immediate descent is strongly recommended, along with visiting the nearest health post. Health services are available at key points including Chame, Upper Manang, Tilicho Base Camp, Muktinath, Lo Manthang, and Jomsom, the ACAP said.

Additionally, plans are underway to establish a health facility at Machhapuchhre Base Camp to further support trekkers in the region, it added.
