KATHMANDU: The Hamdeli Ramdung Peak 2025 Expedition, an international all-women climbing initiative led by IFMGA guide Pasang Kidar Sherpa, has achieved success on Yalung Ri (5,630m) after heavy snowfall prevented their planned ascent of Ramdung Peak (5,930m).

The expedition — comprising climbers from Nepal, the United States, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, and Tajikistan — reached the summit of Yalung Ri together at 8:02 a.m. on Wednesday, marking a high point in their three-week journey through Nepal’s scenic Rolwaling Valley.

Originally scheduled to climb Ramdung Peak, the team shifted their goal due to continuous snow and poor weather conditions. Pasang Kidar Sherpa, an IFMGA-certified international mountain guide, along with Mingma Chhiri Sherpa, guided the group.

Afghan climber Neki Haidari withdrew at 4,000 meters due to health reasons, while the remaining climbers — including Maryam Sharipova of Tajikistan, Srijana Tamang of Nepal, Tsetan Dolma of India, and others — reached the summit after a seven-hour climb beginning at 1 a.m.

Sharipova described the moment as “an unforgettable symbol of unity and empowerment in the mountains.”

Supported by Khangri Trek and Hamdeli, a U.S.-based non-profit, the initiative continues to promote women’s leadership and international camaraderie through Himalayan mountaineering.
