KATHMANDU: Continuous heavy snowfall has severely affected life and transportation in Mustang district, with key road sections and high-altitude passes blocked, prompting authorities to urge the public, tourists and pilgrims to avoid travel in the region.

According to the District Administration Office (DAO), Mustang, snowfall that began on the Tuesday night has impacted large parts of the district, including the Muktinath area, Korala border point and most parts of Upper Mustang. Several high-altitude areas such as Yak Kharka in the Mustang–Dolpa region (5,800 metres), Thorong La Pass (5,450 metres), Saribung Pass (6,000 metres) and Mesokanto Pass (5,245 metres) have also received heavy snow.

Authorities said Dhampus Peak along the Mustang–Myagdi Dhaulagiri trekking route has been affected, raising safety concerns for trekkers in the area.

Due to snow accumulation, the Kaligandaki Corridor’s Kagbeni–Korala section and the Kagbeni–Muktinath road have been completely obstructed, halting vehicular movement. The DAO has requested all concerned not to travel through these routes until conditions improve, warning that snowfall and rain could continue in other parts of the district.

Echoing the advisory, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) urged tourists and pilgrims to remain vigilant, obtain up-to-date weather information and travel only after taking necessary precautions.

Authorities have advised the public to remain in contact with local administration and security agencies for updates as weather conditions continue to be monitored closely.
