Department of Tourism encourages wider use of service to improve visitor experience

KATHMANDU: While many tourists still rely on guidebooks or translation apps to navigate Nepal, the Department of Tourism is urging visitors and tourism stakeholders to take full advantage of its Multilingual Tourist Helpline, designed to support travelers in real time and bridge language barriers.

Launched earlier by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the helpline is useful for many foreign visitors in need of travel guidance, emergency support, or general information. The service aims to enhance the overall tourist experience by offering direct communication in several international languages.

Currently, assistance is available in Nepali, Hindi, Korean, English, and Japanese, catering to a diverse group of travelers coming to Nepal each year. The helpline operates through a dedicated call center, where trained staff respond to queries and concerns in the caller’s chosen language—offering support without the need for translators or digital tools.

In addition to route guidance and travel-related information, the helpline also forwards complaints or safety concerns to relevant authorities for timely response, thereby serving as a vital link between tourists and the government.

"Forget about translators, Talk to a real person and get your queries answered in no time, that too; in your own language. We welcome you to Nepal," the DoT said.
