KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has officially released its annual report for the fiscal year 2081/82, outlining key developments, achievements, and challenges in Nepal’s tourism sector.

The report was unveiled Thursday by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, in the presence of senior ministry officials and tourism stakeholders.

The report showcases a year of growth, with increased international arrivals, significant progress in mountaineering and trekking activities, and advancements in tourism infrastructure. It also provides a detailed account of cultural tourism promotions, domestic tourism trends, and aviation sector performance.

"Nepal's natural, cultural, and biological heritage is to be protected and promoted. The country's vision for tourism is to develop it in an inclusive, colorful, and qualitative manner, with a long-term perspective. The department is actively working to develop infrastructure for tourism, hospitality services, adventure, religious and mountain tourism, and management," the report stated.

The department is committed to simplification, procedural improvement, systematic reforms, and regulatory discipline in its work. This is to ensure that tourism entrepreneurs, investors, and service providers feel confident in the sector, the report said.

"The department has prioritized religious, cultural, adventure, health, and mountain tourism. These areas offer competitive advantages compared to traditional forms of tourism. To achieve this, the department is working to create opportunities, promote quality tourism, provide services, facilities, and safety to tourists, and establish new destinations. It also aims to expand tourism activities by generating employment and self-employment opportunities."

The document includes a review of programs and tasks, along with future policies. This report also outlines suggestions, policies, and readiness for the development of Nepal's tourism sector.
