Nepal Airlines prepares for direct Kathmandu–Dhaka flights

KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is making preparations to launch direct flights between Kathmandu and Dhaka, Bangladesh, in the near future, marking what would be the national flag carrier's first-ever service to the Bangladeshi capital.

The corporation has begun preliminary work and formed a feasibility study sub-committee to assess the viability of the route. According to the corporation, the move responds to a longstanding gap in connectivity, noting that despite Bangladesh being a neighbouring country, the national carrier has until now been unable to operate flights to Dhaka. A decision on launching the service will be taken based on the sub-committee's findings.

Bangladesh already has direct air links with Kathmandu, with Bangladeshi carriers operating regular flights on the route. Nepal's private carrier Himalayan Airlines also flies to Dhaka. Nepal Airlines has, however, remained absent from the sector.
