KATHMANDU: Rescuers recovered four more bodies from the Himlung Himal Base Camp avalanche site on Thursday, taking the death toll to 11 as the search for workers still buried under deep snow continues. Five more are still missing.

The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) Search and Rescue Team recovered the bodies during an operation led by IFMGA mountain guides Pasang Kaji Sherpa and Bikram Karki, in coordination with Himalayan Holidays.

NNMGA said the rescue operation was continuing under extremely difficult conditions. The association has yet to release the identities of the four workers whose bodies were recovered on Thursday.

Seven bodies had previously been recovered from the site. They were identified as Chhebi Bhote and Pasang Bhote of Sankhuwasabha, Ghanashyam Rai and Suraj Rai of Khotang, Birendra Gurung and Aash Gurung of Gorkha, and Kalam Budha of Rukum.

The avalanche struck the Himlung Himal Base Camp on September 27, burying expedition support workers, including kitchen staff, under deep snow. A ground team resumed search operations on Wednesday with mountain guides and local residents from Manang.

NNMGA said further verified details would be released as the search and recovery operation progresses.
