KATHMANDU: A Seven Summit Treks expedition team reached the summit of Gasherbrum II (8,035m) in Pakistan on July 30, the mountaineering operator announced, with the ascent also marking the completion of all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks for the team's senior guide, Lhakpa Temba Sherpa.

The team, led by Lakpa Sherpa (Makalu Lakpa), summited between 4:50 AM and 5:05 AM Pakistan time, according to Seven Summit Treks. The successful summit team comprised Nadia Lisa Khoso of the UK, Roman Andrade Romancini of Brazil, Lakpa Sherpa, Lhakpa Temba Sherpa, Pasang Tenje Sherpa — who climbed without supplemental oxygen — Tashi Sherpa, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, and Dawasange Sherpa.

Seven Summit Treks noted that Lhakpa Temba Sherpa's achievement, noting the ascent completed his round of all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, a distinction held by a select group of mountaineers worldwide.

With this summit, Lakpa Sherpa, popularly known as Makalu Lakpa, also completed his ninth peak above 8,000m. “Makalu Lakpa scaled four 8,000m peaks in less than four months,” Chhang Dawa Sherpa, Expedition Director at Seven Summit Treks said.

Chhang Dawa credited the expedition's success to its ground staff, logistics team, base camp crew, kitchen staff and other support personnel working behind the scenes, saying every summit is built on their work and commitment.
