Phur Galjen Sherpa completes all 14 eight-thousanders with Gasherbrum I summit

KATHMANDU: Phur Galjen Sherpa of Imagine Nepal Treks has completed all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks with his summit of Gasherbrum I (8,080m) in Pakistan on August 1, according to Mingma G, Managing Director at Imagine Nepal.
The milestone comes just eleven days after Phur Galjen summited Gasherbrum II on July 21, Mingma G said.
According to Imagine Nepal, Phur Galjen's ascents across the 14 eight-thousanders include Everest 20 times, K2 twice, Kanchenjunga once in 2018, Lhotse twice, Cho Oyu twice, Annapurna twice, Manaslu three times, Makalu twice, Shishapangma once, Nanga Parbat once — including the first autumn ascent of the peak in 2017 — Broad Peak three times, Dhaulagiri once, and now Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II.
Beyond the 14 official 8,000-meter peaks, Imagine Nepal noted that Phur Galjen also summited Yalung Kang (8,505m) in 2004, making him one of only five Nepali climbers to have reached the summit of that peak — bringing his total to 15 distinct 8,000-meter-plus summits.
Phur Galjen, from Thame village in Solukhumbu, began climbing as a local Sherpa in 1997 and made his first Everest summit in 1999.
