MANANG: The Annapurna Conservation Area Project's Unit Conservation Office in Manang has completed a three-day cleanup campaign along one of Nepal's most popular trekking routes, collecting around 75 sacks of waste from the trail between Tanki Manang and Thorong La Pass.

The campaign, organised by ACAP UCO Manang, brought together 21 participants including ACAP staff, Trekking Management and Service Committee (TMSC) members, Armed Police Force personnel from Humde, Nepal Police from Chame, Humde and Tanki Manang, and local community members.

Waste collected during the campaign included 25 sacks of cans, 15 sacks of glass bottles, and additional sacks of plastic, paper and mixed waste gathered from the trekking route and surrounding areas. Waste management pits were also constructed at designated points along the trail to support proper disposal and segregation going forward.

The Thorong La Pass, at 5,416 metres, is one of the highest and most heavily trafficked sections of the Annapurna Circuit, a trekking route that draws thousands of visitors each year. ACAP said the campaign was aimed at maintaining the cleanliness of the trail and promoting responsible tourism and environmental conservation in the Annapurna region.
