KATHMANDU: A wildlife survey in the Manang Ngisyang Block has found the Blue Sheep, locally known as Naur, population to be healthy and stable, a result conservationists say reflects sustained habitat protection efforts in the Annapurna Conservation Area.

The survey, conducted by NTNC's Annapurna Conservation Area Project, assessed both population numbers and the Blue Sheep's role as a primary prey species underpinning the high-altitude ecosystem.

A stable Naur population is considered a key indicator of ecosystem health in Nepal's mountain conservation areas, as the species is the principal prey of the snow leopard.

ACAP said the findings underline the importance of continued habitat protection in the block.
