KATHMANDU: The Central Zoo in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, has been closed to visitors from Friday following the detection of bird flu infections among animals housed within the zoo premises.

Issuing a public notice, the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), which manages the zoo, said the facility will remain closed from Asadh 5, 2083 (June 19, 2026) until further notice.

The decision was taken in the interest of public health and safety, considering the potential risks posed by the outbreak. The zoo administration apologised for the inconvenience caused to visitors and sought their understanding and cooperation.
