KATHMANDU: Travelers heading to eastern and central Nepal today may want to keep umbrellas handy. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in several provinces, particularly Koshi, Lumbini, Bagmati, and Gandaki.
According to the DHM, Koshi and Lumbini Provinces, along with Nepal’s hilly regions, are likely to remain mostly cloudy throughout the day. While the rest of the country may see clearer skies, brief showers are still expected in scattered areas across the Terai and hills.
There is also a chance of heavy rainfall at one or two locations in the hilly belts of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces—potentially affecting trekking routes and mountain travel plans in those areas.
Tonight, skies are expected to remain generally overcast nationwide. Moderate rain is likely in some parts of Madhesh, Koshi, and Lumbini, with occasional showers possible in other hilly and lowland regions. A few hilly areas of Koshi may experience heavier downpours.
Weather Outlook for Kathmandu Valley The capital is expected to stay cloudy through the day, with light rain on the radar. Daytime temperatures will range between 27°C and 29°C, while the evening may bring more showers, with temperatures dipping to 19°C–21°C.
Monsoon Pattern Update Meteorologists say the monsoon trough currently lies slightly north of its average position, hovering over Nepal’s Terai region. While monsoon conditions persist, the strength of moisture-laden winds has slightly weakened.
Travel Advisory: Tourists planning to explore Nepal’s eastern or hilly regions today should check local weather conditions before heading out. Rain gear and flexible itineraries are recommended, especially for outdoor activities like trekking, rafting, or jungle safaris.
