LUKLA: Continuing its annual program, Hike for Help Nepal has brought ten students from the University of Colorado Boulder in the US to Nepal to experience the scenic beauty of the Khumbu region near Mount Everest.

Lhakpa Sherpa, a Colorado-based philanthropist, business owner, and convenor of the Hike for Help initiative, stated that the students will trek to Everest Base Camp and provide volunteer services at a meditation center in Lukla.

“Our CU Boulder students’ Hike for Help team has officially begun their Everest Base Camp adventure. The weather in Khumbu is gorgeous, the team is feeling strong, and we’re all set for the journey,” Lhakpa said from Lukla.

According to him, the two-week program is designed to help university students explore and promote the Everest region. “Their efforts will certainly help promote the world’s premier adventure destination—the Everest Base Camp trek—in the international market,” he added.

As part of a 'learning by doing' initiative, the students will work hands-on during their service projects. “Our annual program is designed for students from various schools in Colorado and is structured as a volunteer vacation trek to the Mount Everest region.”

In addition to this trek, the organization has a history of community support in the region. Following the massive 2015 earthquakes, it has run various relief programs, including constructing earthquake-resistant and energy-efficient school buildings in the district. Past initiatives have also included conducting a medical camp in Hewa village, Thaksindu, and constructing foot trails in the Khumbu area of Solukhumbu.
