KATHMANDU: The Polish extreme skier Andrzej Bargiel has finally announced the success of his ambitious project – skiing down from the summit of Nanga Parbat in Pakistan without using supplemental oxygen.

The Tourism Times broke the story on the same day he skied down from the summit to the base camp.

Making an official announcement on July 2, the 38-year-old ski daredevil shared that he completed a full ski descent from the summit to the base camp after struggling for many hours on the mountain on June 30.

“On June 30, after a long summit push, I reached the top of Nanga Parbat and completed a full ski descent from the summit via the Messner Route, skiing over 3,700 vertical meters all the way to Base Camp,” he posted.

“With this descent, I have completed a project that has been years in the making: climbing and skiing all of Pakistan’s 8,000-meter peaks,” Bargiel said.

“I’m truly grateful that I could share this summit with Janusz Gołąb, who climbed alongside me and supported me throughout the entire ascent,” he said, thanking all supporters: gzela.eu, Pawlikowski Media, Darek Załuski, and Pasang Rinzee Sherpa.

The ski project was handled locally by Nepal’s largest expedition outfitter – Seven Summit Treks – while SST’s co-owner and renowned climber Chhang Dawa Sherpa stationed himself there to facilitate Bargiel’s mission.
