KATHMANDU: Two Italian climbers who went missing on Panbari Himal in the Manaslu region have been found dead, rescuers confirmed today.
A rescue team comprising four climbers, including two senior international mountain guides, reached the missing climbers' tent at Camp I this morning. They discovered the bodies of Farronato Stefano and Caputo Alessandro at an altitude of 5,242 meters.
“The duo were found dead inside their tent,” IFMGA guide Narendra Shahi (Naren) told T3.
The climbers had been missing on Panbari Himal (6,887 meters) since October 28. The rescue mission was launched yesterday by a team that included IFMGA guides Narendra Shahi and Pasang Kaji Sherpa, aspirant guide Kusang Sherpa, and expedition leader Vatler Perlino.
According to the Department of Tourism, Farronato Stefano and Caputo Alessandro were members of the 'Italian Panbari Q7 Expedition' and went missing after being trapped by heavy snowfall. The expedition was organized by Kathmandu-based Sherpa Alpine Trekking Service.
Climbing and trekking activities have been severely affected over the past six days after Cyclone Montha brought widespread rain and snow across the country.
